Uganda Hosts Top Chinese Delegation to Strengthen Legislative and Bilateral Ties

Uganda is hosting a high-level Chinese delegation led by H.E. Mr. Zhong Shan, a Member of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC) and Chairman of the NPC’s Financial and Economic Committee.

The visit is part of ongoing efforts to deepen bilateral relations and enhance cooperation at the legislative level.

Uganda and China have enjoyed a longstanding partnership since establishing diplomatic relations on October 18, 1962. Over the years, the collaboration has expanded across various sectors, including politics, trade, investment, security, and culture, strengthening the ties between the two nations.

In welcoming the delegation at parliament today, Uganda’s Deputy Speaker, Thomas Tayebwa, commended the growing friendship, highlighting the pivotal role of Chinese President H.E. Xi Jinping in fostering the relationship.

“We are grateful to President Xi Jinping for his unwavering support towards Uganda and Africa at large. His vision for a prosperous Africa, alongside his strong working relationship with President Museveni, has driven Uganda-China relations to new heights,” Tayebwa stated.

China plays a key role in Uganda’s development, particularly through infrastructure projects and investment.

The visit by Mr. Zhong Shan highlights China’s commitment to further collaboration, particularly at the legislative level, to ensure sustained growth in various areas of cooperation.

This visit reaffirms both nations’ dedication to strengthening their diplomatic and economic partnership, marking a new phase in their six-decade-long relationship.
