Museveni: NRM Must Return to the “Correct Line”

KAMPALA — President Yoweri Museveni has urged members of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Parliamentary Caucus to return to what he described as the “correct methods” of the NRM and intensify follow-up on Government programmes to ensure they reach ordinary Ugandans.

Museveni made the remarks on Friday while addressing the NRM Caucus at Kololo in Kampala, where he emphasised the need for political leaders to monitor the implementation of Government initiatives, particularly the Parish Development Model (PDM).

He said PDM must translate into tangible economic opportunities for communities rather than remain a Government programme on paper.

“This is why PDM must reach the people,” Museveni said, while also calling for stronger protection of Uganda’s wetlands.

The President said people occupying wetlands should leave the protected areas, while alternative livelihoods should be developed for affected communities.

He cited Busoga, Bukedi and Kigezi as areas where the Government would promote fish farming as an alternative economic activity, saying the approach could provide income while also supporting water availability for irrigation.

Museveni also linked what he described as adherence to the NRM’s “correct line” to Uganda’s projected economic growth of 10.4% this year.

He called for the country to build on the projected growth by expanding commercial agriculture, manufacturing and industry, information and communication technology (ICT), and the services sector.

“As the Bible says, you reap what you sow,” Museveni said, urging NRM leaders to strengthen implementation of the Government’s economic agenda.

The President’s remarks come as the Government continues to push household-level economic transformation through PDM while enforcing measures aimed at protecting wetlands and other environmentally sensitive areas.

Museveni urged the NRM Caucus to play a more active role in ensuring that Government programmes are effectively implemented and deliver measurable benefits to communities.
