KAMPALA — Uganda and the Republic of Korea have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation, with both countries seeking to expand partnerships in trade, investment, technology, agriculture, and education.
This follows a meeting in Kampala on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, where Uganda’s Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Haruna Kasolo Kyeyune, received copies of Letters of Credence from H.E. Lee Sang-ho, the Ambassador-Designate of the Republic of Korea to Uganda.
Hon. Kasolo congratulated Ambassador Lee upon his appointment and welcomed him to Uganda, noting that Kampala remains committed to advancing the longstanding friendship between the two nations. He emphasized Uganda’s desire to strengthen diplomatic engagement with Korea, particularly in political, economic, and socio-cultural cooperation.
During the engagement, Ambassador Lee expressed appreciation for the warm reception and pledged to further consolidate the partnership between Uganda and South Korea. He highlighted agriculture, trade, investment, and education as key areas where cooperation between the two countries can be expanded.
Hon. Kasolo further called for increased collaboration in digital innovation and technology, saying such partnerships could create opportunities for Uganda’s youthful population. He also encouraged more Korean investment in agro-processing and value addition, especially in rural communities.
The Acting Foreign Affairs Minister also pushed for greater market access for Ugandan products, including coffee and fresh produce, in the Korean market, as Uganda seeks to increase exports and unlock new opportunities for local producers.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening Uganda–Korea relations and exploring new avenues for mutually beneficial cooperation.
