President Yoweri Museveni has revealed that he recently survived a near car accident at his Kisozi ranch while driving with First Lady Janet Museveni and their daughter.
Speaking publicly about the incident during the Tarehe Sita thanksgiving, Museveni described how a momentary distraction while driving his official Toyota Land Cruiser nearly led to the vehicle veering off the road.
“The other day, just a few days ago, I was driving,” Museveni recounted. “You know, I’m also some sort of a driver. I even qualified to drive a lorry because I drove one in 1972 when we were attacking Mbarara.”
The President recalled that during the 1972 operations, he drove a seven-ton lorry after soldiers reportedly retreated, gaining hands-on driving experience during the liberation struggle.
Turning to the recent incident, Museveni explained that he became distracted while pointing out different tree species to his daughter.
“I became a botanist, showing my daughter the trees — this one, this one. Then I got diverted,” he said. “When we were almost going off the road, we could have had an accident. But God brought me back in time.”
He described the moment as a reminder of both human vulnerability and divine intervention.
“Every time, you can see the effort of man,” Museveni added, suggesting that while human action is important, faith also plays a role in life’s outcomes.
The incident reportedly occurred at his private ranch in Kisozi, where the President frequently retreats for personal time and agricultural activities.
Museveni, known for his hands-on leadership style and personal anecdotes from Uganda’s liberation struggle, often shares stories blending history, faith, and governance during public addresses.
