3 Arrested As Uganda Security, US Embassy Bust Student Visa Scam

Ugandan law enforcement working with the US Embassy in Kampala, has arrested three Ugandan nationals who attempted to fraudulently obtain student visas using forged academic documents.

According to the US Embassy, the individuals submitted falsified birth certificates, university diplomas, examination results, and transcripts as part of their applications for F-1 student visas.

The fraudulent documents were detected during routine verification procedures by the U.S. Embassy, which then alerted the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) for further action.

The suspects were subsequently apprehended and are currently under investigation.

This development follows a recent wave of advisories from the U.S. Embassy warning Ugandan applicants of stricter visa screening protocols.

As part of these new measures, applicants—especially those applying for student visas—are now required to ensure their social media profiles are set to public to aid in identity verification.

Additionally, applicants were reminded that using a visa to travel for the purpose of giving birth in the U.S. is not permitted, and overstaying a visa could result in permanent ineligibility.

The arrests reflect heightened enforcement under these updated guidelines and form part of a broader U.S. effort to protect the integrity of its immigration system.

Investigations are ongoing to determine whether the suspects are part of a larger network involved in document forgery.

Ugandan authorities have cautioned the public against using fraudulent means to acquire visas, urging all applicants to provide authentic and verifiable documents.

Further arrests are expected as law enforcement agencies continue to crack down on visa-related fraud.
