Uganda’s President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Sunday held a high-level meeting with Mr. Khalid bin Mohammad Al Attiyah, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, at Nakasero State Lodge.
The discussions centered on strengthening bilateral cooperation in strategic sectors crucial to Uganda’s economic transformation.
In the engagement, President Museveni and Mr. Al Attiyah explored investment opportunities in petroleum supply, mining, and agriculture. The President emphasized Uganda’s commitment to deepening partnerships that support industrialization, energy security, and value addition.
President Museveni further proposed collaboration in the fast-growing battery production sector for electric vehicles (EVs), an area in which Uganda is gaining traction given its deposits of critical minerals such as lithium and cobalt. He also underscored the importance of agro-processing ventures, which would help boost exports and enhance food security.
“I welcome Mr. Al Attiyah and his team to Uganda. Our discussions were productive, and I look forward to seeing these ideas turn into impactful projects,” President Museveni stated following the meeting.
The visit signals growing interest from Gulf nations in Uganda’s resource-rich economy and aligns with the government’s ongoing efforts to attract strategic investors into priority sectors.
Mr. Al Attiyah, who currently plays a prominent role in international investment initiatives, expressed appreciation for Uganda’s openness and reaffirmed Qatar’s interest in long-term partnerships on the continent.
The meeting sets the stage for technical teams from both countries to begin consultations and feasibility assessments for joint ventures in the agreed areas.
H.E. Dr. Rashid Yahya Ssemuddu, Uganda’s Ambassador also attended the meeting.
