Museveni Congratulates New AU Commission Leadership, Pledges Continued Cooperation

President Yoweri Museveni has extended his heartfelt congratulations to H.E. Mahamoud Ali Youssouf and H.E. Selma Malika Haddadi on their election as Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC) at the 38th African Union (AU) Summit.

In a statement issued today, President Museveni emphasized Uganda’s commitment to working closely with the new AUC leadership to address Africa’s challenges and unlock the continent’s potential for the benefit of its people.

"On behalf of the Government and People of Uganda, and on my own behalf, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Their Excellencies Mahamoud Ali Youssouf and Selma Malika Haddadi upon their election as Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission," Museveni stated.

He reaffirmed Uganda’s dedication to strengthening cooperation with the AU Commission in tackling key issues such as economic integration, peace and security, and sustainable development.

The 38th AU Summit, held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, brought together African leaders to discuss pressing continental matters, including conflict resolution, economic transformation, and Africa’s strategic partnerships.

Youssouf and Haddadi's election, marked a new era in the AU’s leadership, with expectations high for advancing the union’s Agenda 2063 vision.

Youssouf beat Kenya's Raila Odinga to clinch the post.
