Collaboration Triumphs: Uganda Celebrates Achievements of the 19th NAM and G77 plus China Summits

Uganda’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs/International Affairs is on cloud nine over the just concluded Non-aligned Movement and G77+China summits.

The Speke Resort Hotel in Munyonyo, Kampala, served as the epicenter for the 19th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and G77 plus China summits, which concluded with resounding success on January 22, 2024.

Hon. Okello Oryem, the Minister of State for International Affairs, expressed deep gratitude to his colleagues and key figures for their exceptional contributions to the triumph of these significant diplomatic gatherings.

In a formal statement, Minister Okello Oryem praised the exemplary leadership of the Head of State of the Republic of Uganda, H.E. Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. Gen. Museveni, who assumed the chairmanship of the 19th NAM and G77 plus China, was lauded for his commitment and dedication. Minister Oryem anticipates a transformative era for Uganda under Gen. Museveni’s leadership, foreseeing increased Foreign Direct Investment and heightened global attention to the nation.

The minister extended appreciation to Vice President Hon. (Rtd) Major Jessica Alupo, Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Robina Nabbanja, and other cabinet members. Special recognition was given to key figures such as Ms. Lucy Nakyobe and Mr. Vincent Waiswa Bagiire, who played pivotal roles in organizing the summits.

Highlighting the collaborative efforts across Ministries, Departments & Agencies, Minister Oryem emphasized their ability to overcome unforeseen challenges, showcasing dedication to collective success.

The international support, including vehicles, ICT equipment, financial resources, and national flags from diplomatic missions and organizations accredited to Uganda, was acknowledged. Notable contributors such as the People’s Republic of China, the Indian government, Serbia, UNDP, and U.A.E companies played a crucial role in the success of the summits.

Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia and the management of Speke Resort Hotel were praised for their outstanding hospitality, ensuring a seamless experience for the delegations and participants.

He also hailed Azerbaijan for it’s technical support in providing translation services.
