Chinese President Xi Jinping has sent a congratulatory message to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni following his re-election as President of the Republic of Uganda, reaffirming China’s commitment to deepening bilateral relations with Kampala.

In his message sent on Friday, President Xi highlighted the long-standing traditional friendship between China and Uganda, noting that the two countries have in recent years firmly supported each other on issues concerning their core interests and major concerns.

Xi said China–Uganda cooperation has yielded fruitful outcomes across various fields, while the two nations have maintained effective coordination and cooperation in international and regional affairs.

Describing President Museveni as “an old friend of the Chinese people,” Xi praised the Ugandan leader for his long-standing commitment to promoting the development of China–Uganda relations, a contribution he said is highly appreciated by the Chinese side.

The Chinese leader further emphasized that he attaches great importance to bilateral ties and expressed readiness to work closely with President Museveni to deepen political mutual trust, carry forward the traditional friendship, and implement the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China–Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

Xi said these efforts are aimed at advancing the China–Uganda Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership, stressing that enhanced cooperation will bring greater benefits to the peoples of both countries.

China is one of Uganda’s key development partners, with cooperation spanning infrastructure, trade, health, education, energy, and security, anchored within the broader framework of China–Africa relations.
