Juba — South Sudan President Salva Kiir has appointed his daughter, Adut Salva Kiir, as the new presidential envoy for special programmes.
Adut replaces Vice President Benjamin Bol Mel, who previously held the position before his elevation to the vice presidency.
The appointment, announced through a presidential decree broadcast on state media, underscores Kiir’s continued consolidation of influence within key government positions.
Adut is expected to oversee special assignments on behalf of the presidency, though the specifics of her new portfolio have not yet been made public.
The move has already sparked debate, with critics raising concerns about growing nepotism within the government, while supporters argue that Adut brings fresh energy and loyalty to the office.
