Ugandan climate activist and youth leader Denise Ayebare has earned continental recognition after being named among the prestigious Forbes Africa Under 30 Class of 2026, joining a select group of young Africans celebrated for their innovation, leadership and impact across the continent.

Ayebare’s inclusion on the coveted list is a major milestone not only for her personal journey but also for Uganda’s growing influence in youth-led climate action and policy advocacy. Forbes Africa described its 2026 Under 30 class as a generation defined by innovation, impact and inclusion, recognizing 30 young leaders shaping the future of Africa.

At just 21 years old, Ayebare has already established herself as one of Africa’s most prominent young voices on climate justice. She is the founder and Executive Director of BetterLife International, a youth-led organization focused on climate action, sustainability and youth empowerment across several African countries.

Her leadership credentials extend to serving as a Youth Presidential Advisor on Climate Change in Uganda and as a Youth Climate Action Negotiator within international climate platforms. She has represented young people at major global climate forums, including United Nations climate conferences, where she has advocated for stronger climate action and greater youth participation in decision-making.

Ayebare has also received several accolades in recent years, including recognition as Climate Activist of the Year 2024 and a Diana Award recipient, underscoring her growing influence in environmental advocacy and youth leadership.

Her rise from grassroots climate activism to continental recognition reflects a new generation of Ugandan leaders increasingly shaping conversations on sustainability, governance and social change beyond the country’s borders.

For Uganda, Ayebare’s selection is another moment of pride, placing the country’s youthful talent on one of Africa’s most influential platforms and reinforcing the message that young Ugandans are making a meaningful impact on global issues.
