Uganda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Odongo Jeje Abubaker, today held a bilateral meeting with Fatima Yeseina Fernandez Juarez of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kampala.

The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations between Uganda and Venezuela, with both sides exploring expanded cooperation across strategic sectors including oil and gas, energy, mining, agriculture, petrochemicals, and research and development.

The two officials reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing South-South cooperation, emphasizing the importance of collaboration among developing nations to drive sustainable growth and industrial transformation.

A key outcome of the discussions was the agreement to convene a Joint Permanent Commission (JPC) in the near future, aimed at formalizing and scaling up cooperation frameworks between the two countries. Similar engagements in recent years have underscored both nations’ intent to deepen diplomatic and economic ties.

Ambassador Fernandez expressed Venezuela’s readiness to support Uganda’s development ambitions by sharing technical expertise in upstream oil production, refining processes, and petrochemical development—areas where Venezuela has longstanding experience.

Both sides also welcomed the steady progress in bilateral relations and expressed optimism about further high-level engagements, including interactions expected during the upcoming swearing-in ceremony in May 2026.

The meeting signals a continued push by Uganda to diversify its global partnerships, particularly within the Global South, as it seeks to leverage international cooperation for industrialization and value addition.
