President Yoweri Museveni has called on the European Union and other international partners to support Africa’s industrialization and value-addition agenda, saying the continent cannot achieve prosperity while continuing to export raw materials and import finished products.

The President made the remarks on Tuesday during a meeting with European Union Ambassador to Uganda, H.E. Jan Sadek, and his delegation at State House Entebbe. Deputy Head of Mission H.E Guillaume Chartrain was part of the delegation.

The meeting reflected on 50 years of partnership between Uganda and the European Union, with both sides discussing areas of mutual cooperation and future collaboration.

Museveni welcomed the long-standing relationship between Uganda and the EU but stressed that Africa’s economic transformation depends on expanding local manufacturing, processing industries, and infrastructure development.

“Africa cannot continue exporting raw materials while importing finished products if we are to achieve prosperity for our people,” the President said.

He noted that supporting value addition and industrialization would not only benefit African countries but also create new opportunities for trade, investment, and business partnerships with Europe.

According to Museveni, a wealthier and more prosperous Africa would strengthen economic ties between the two continents and unlock significant opportunities for investors.

The President urged European partners to work closely with African governments in developing industries, improving infrastructure, and harnessing the continent’s vast economic potential.
