President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Friday met a delegation from the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) at State House Entebbe to discuss the regional Ebola situation and measures aimed at strengthening preparedness and response efforts across the continent.

The delegation was led by Africa CDC Director General, Jean Kaseya, who briefed the President on ongoing surveillance, coordination and containment strategies being implemented to prevent the further spread of Ebola in the region.

During the meeting, Africa CDC proposed the establishment of a continental Incident Management Support Team for Ebola in Kampala to enhance regional coordination, monitoring and rapid response efforts. President Museveni welcomed the proposal and pledged Uganda’s support towards the initiative.

“This afternoon at State House Entebbe, I met a delegation from Africa CDC led by Director General Dr. Jean Kaseya, who briefed me on the regional Ebola situation and the measures being taken to ensure Uganda remains protected,” Museveni said in a statement shared after the meeting.

“They proposed establishing a continental Incident Management Support Team for Ebola in Kampala to strengthen regional coordination and monitoring efforts, which Uganda welcomes and will support,” he added.

Museveni also reassured the public that Ebola remains manageable when proper attention is given to preparedness, surveillance and timely response measures.

“With proper attention and preparedness, Ebola is very manageable,” the President noted.

Uganda has previously been praised internationally for its experience and capacity in handling Ebola outbreaks through rapid response mechanisms, community surveillance, contact tracing and public health coordination. The proposed continental support team is expected to further position Kampala as a key regional hub for disease surveillance and epidemic response in Africa.
