Members of the 12th Parliament are attending their induction seminar

There were smiles, whispers and excitement at Speke Resort Munyonyo after Finance Minister Henry Musasizi dropped the bombshell every MP had been waiting for—the Shs300 million vehicle cash is finally on the way!

Addressing Members of the 12th Parliament during their induction seminar, Musasizi revealed that government will release the money in the first batch of funds for the 2026/27 financial year, expected by July 10.

The minister playfully acknowledged the burning question on every legislator’s mind.

“I know some people have been whispering, asking when the money for the cars will come,” he said before assuring MPs that the cash had been prioritised.

Musasizi disclosed that he had already directed officials at the Ministry of Finance to ensure the vehicle money is included in the first July release so lawmakers can quickly buy new rides and return to their constituencies with ease.

“By the end of July, we shall all be happy,” he told the cheering legislators, adding that he also has a personal interest because he is “part of you colleagues.”

Each MP is expected to receive about Shs300 million to purchase an official vehicle, setting the stage for a new fleet of shiny rides for Uganda’s newest lawmakers.

The Finance Minister also reminded MPs that he fought to shield their allowances from a proposed 40 percent income tax, saying he had stood his ground to protect legislators’ earnings.

With the cash now in sight, attention is shifting from whether the money will come to which vehicles Uganda’s MPs will be driving in the coming weeks.
