Uganda Airlines is set to expand its global footprint with the launch of direct flights between Entebbe International Airport and London Gatwick, marking a historic milestone in the airline’s five-year journey.
Starting May 18, 2025, the national carrier will operate four weekly nonstop flights, reestablishing a direct air link between Uganda and the United Kingdom after nearly a decade.
The airline’s Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Jenifer Bamuturaki, emphasized that this new service is designed to meet the growing demand for seamless travel between the two nations. “Uganda and the United Kingdom share deep historical, cultural, and economic ties. These direct flights will enhance convenience for travelers while strengthening trade, tourism, and investment opportunities,” she said.
Industry reports have consistently highlighted Entebbe as one of Africa’s most underserved markets for flights to London. The introduction of this route by Uganda Airlines is expected to bridge that gap, providing travelers with a reliable, direct option between the two destinations.
Boosting Tourism and Connectivity
Uganda, known as “The Pearl of Africa,” boasts breathtaking landscapes, diverse wildlife, and a rich cultural heritage. The UK remains a key source market for Uganda’s tourism industry, and the new flights are expected to boost visitor arrivals by offering a more convenient travel experience.
The route will be operated using the state-of-the-art Airbus A330-800neo, ensuring comfort and efficiency for passengers. The flight schedule has been carefully planned to provide seamless connections through Entebbe to Uganda Airlines’ extensive African network. Key destinations include:
- East Africa: Nairobi, Kilimanjaro, Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar, Mombasa, Bujumbura
- Southern Africa: Johannesburg, Lusaka, Harare
- West Africa: Lagos, Abuja, Accra (upcoming)
- Central & Horn of Africa: Juba, Mogadishu, Kinshasa
