KAMPALA, Uganda — The Omukama of Tooro, His Majesty King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, has died at approximately 10:00 p.m. this evening, the Tooro Kingdom has announced.

Tooro Kingdom Prime Minister Calvin Rwomiire Akiiki confirmed the death in a statement, describing it as an “immeasurable loss” to the Royal Family, the people of Tooro and Uganda.

“It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that I announce the passing of His Majesty the Omukama of Tooro, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, at approximately 10:00 p.m. this evening,” Rwomiire said.

King Oyo was 34 at the time of his death.

The announcement follows an earlier communication from the Kingdom confirming that King Oyo was in a critical condition and appealing to the public to pray for the monarch while avoiding speculation about his health.

The Prime Minister called on the people of Tooro to remain united, calm and prayerful following the King’s death.

He also announced that the continuity of the Tooro Crown is assured, revealing that King Oyo leaves behind a Prince who will be his heir.

According to Rwomiire, the identity of the heir will be formally revealed at the appropriate time in accordance with the traditions and customs of the Tooro Kingdom.

An official statement is expected to provide further details on the funeral and mourning arrangements.

“May His Majesty the King rest in eternal peace,” the Prime Minister said.

King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV ascended the Tooro throne as a child in 1995 and became one of Uganda’s most prominent traditional leaders.
