Former Speaker of Parliament and Bukedea Woman MP Anita Among has thanked President Yoweri Museveni after he ordered her release from house arrest and decided that she would not face prosecution.
Among expressed gratitude to God for what she described as the “gift of life and freedom” and praised Museveni for what she called his “unmatched parental grace” and decision to grant her mercy.
“My profound and heartfelt appreciation goes to His Excellency, President @KagutaMuseveni, for his unmatched parental grace and decision to grant me mercy,” Among said in a tweet in Wednesday.
She also thanked Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba for his professionalism during the period.
“As the Woman MP for Bukedea, I look forward to continuing my work for my constituents and standing firm with our revolutionary leadership,” she added.
Her statement comes a day after Gen. Muhoozi announced on social media that Museveni had directed her release and ruled out prosecution.
“Mzee has also instructed me to release AAA from house arrest. We shall do that as well,” Muhoozi said on Tuesday.
He added: “We shall not prosecute AAA. She made mistakes but Mzee has decided to forgive her.”
The announcement effectively brings to an end the period of house arrest imposed on Among, with the CDF indicating that the President had opted for forgiveness rather than prosecution.
Among’s response focused on gratitude to the President and the military leadership, while reaffirming her intention to resume her political and parliamentary responsibilities as Bukedea Woman MP.
