American singer and actor Tyrese Gibson has arrived in Uganda for a visit that will combine high-level engagements with a tour of the country’s tourism and coffee sectors.

Gibson was received at Entebbe International Airport by Uganda Tourism Board Chief Executive Officer Julian Kagwa.

The visit comes days after Gibson announced that he was heading to Africa, describing the trip as a return to his ancestral roots.

“I’m on my way to Africa, I’m coming home, I’m not American-African, I’m African-American. I’m 99 percent African and 1 percent American,” Gibson said.

He also thanked those who connected him to Nigerian Afrobeats star Burna Boy, saying he would travel to Nigeria.

During his Uganda visit, Gibson is expected to meet a top Ugandan leader and visit the coffee park in Ntungamo, highlighting Uganda’s tourism and coffee industries.

His arrival adds another high-profile international personality to Uganda’s growing efforts to promote the country as a destination for tourism, investment and cultural exchange.
