“Accept Israel & Palestinian Statehood,” Uganda Says Amid Middle East Conflicts

KAMPALA, September 21, 2026 — The Ugandan government has reaffirmed its call for a peaceful resolution to conflicts in the Middle East, stating that both Israel and the Palestinian people have the right to exist and that Palestinians should have their own state.

In a statement issued Monday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the government said Uganda does not support unjust wars and appealed to all parties involved in the region’s conflicts to pursue peaceful solutions.

“Uganda never supports wars that are not just,” the statement said.

The government called on concerned actors to accept the State of Israel and the rights of Palestinians to have their own state, arguing that many of the region’s complications stem from failures by different actors to handle the issue justly.

Nuclear Energy and Religious Sectarianism

Uganda also addressed concerns surrounding nuclear energy, religious divisions and identity-based politics in the Middle East.

On nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, the government said the matter should be handled in accordance with international law.

The statement further raised concerns about religious sectarianism involving Jews, Christians, Sunni Muslims and Shia Muslims.

“Our view is that the politics of identity (ethnic, religious) is an ideological and strategic blunder and a poison for any situation,” the ministry stated.

Drawing on Uganda’s own historical experience, the government said some African countries, including Uganda in the past, had been damaged by identity-based politics.

“Some countries in Africa, including Uganda in the past, have been ruined by this poison,” the statement added.

Uganda’s Diplomatic Position

The statement reflects Uganda’s continued emphasis on peaceful conflict resolution, respect for international law and addressing underlying political and identity-related tensions in conflict-affected regions.

The government’s position comes amid persistent international efforts to address the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and wider security challenges in the Middle East.
