Ethiopian Airlines Offers Passengers 69kg Baggage Allowance on Entebbe–Istanbul Route

October 27, 2026

KAMPALA, Uganda — Ethiopian Airlines has introduced a generous checked-baggage allowance for Economy Class passengers travelling on the Entebbe–Istanbul route, allowing eligible travellers to carry three pieces of luggage weighing up to 23 kilogrammes each without additional baggage charges.

The allowance provides a combined checked-baggage capacity of 69 kilogrammes per passenger, offering potential savings for Ugandans travelling to Türkiye for business, shopping, education, tourism and other purposes.

The policy could particularly benefit regional traders who travel to Istanbul to source merchandise, as well as long-term travellers carrying personal belongings, clothing and other essentials.

Benefits for travellers

The increased baggage allowance offers several practical advantages for passengers travelling between Uganda and Türkiye.

Lower travel costs: Travellers who would otherwise need to purchase additional baggage allowance could save money, provided their tickets qualify for the offer. This is especially beneficial for passengers carrying bulky or multiple items.

Support for traders and business travellers: Istanbul is an important commercial destination for people sourcing clothing, textiles, accessories and other merchandise. The additional baggage capacity gives eligible travellers more room to transport goods within the airline's baggage rules, potentially reducing the need for separate shipping arrangements.

Convenience for long-term travellers: Students, workers and passengers planning extended stays can carry more personal belongings without relying as heavily on courier services or purchasing replacement items after arrival.

Greater flexibility when packing: The three-piece allowance enables passengers to distribute their belongings across separate bags, making it easier to organise clothing, personal effects and other permitted items.

Potential savings for families: Families travelling together may find the allowance useful when distributing luggage among eligible passengers, although each traveller's entitlement depends on their individual ticket conditions.

Passengers advised to confirm ticket conditions

Ethiopian Airlines' published baggage guidance states that baggage entitlements vary according to the route, travel class and fare conditions. Its general guidance also specifies that, where the piece system applies, each checked bag is normally limited to 23 kilogrammes, subject to the applicable itinerary rules.

Passengers travelling from Entebbe to Istanbul should therefore confirm that the three-piece allowance applies to their specific booking before travelling, including any restrictions, applicable travel dates and baggage-size limits.

Travellers should also distinguish checked baggage from cabin baggage, which is subject to separate limits.

The offer could make the Entebbe–Istanbul route more attractive to Ugandan traders, business travellers and other passengers seeking to manage travel expenses while carrying more of their belongings.

For eligible passengers, the central advantage is straightforward: more luggage capacity without the additional expense of purchasing extra checked baggage.
