October 27, 2026
ADDIS ABABA, October 27, 2026** — Ethiopian Airlines has launched a new passenger service to Nacala, Mozambique, expanding its network in the southern African country to three destinations.
The inaugural flight departed from Addis Ababa Bole International Airport following a ceremony attended by government officials, aviation stakeholders and Ethiopian Airlines executives, according to a statement released by the airline.
The new service will operate three times a week, providing travellers with improved access to Nacala, a coastal city in northern Mozambique known for its tourism attractions and economic potential.
Nacala becomes Ethiopian Airlines’ third destination in Mozambique, joining Maputo and Beira.
Ethiopian Airlines Group Chief Executive Officer Mesfin Tasew said the launch reflected the carrier’s commitment to strengthening connectivity across Africa and linking the continent to international markets.
“As an airline deeply rooted in Africa, Ethiopian Airlines remains committed to connecting every corner of the continent with the rest of the world,” Tasew said.
He added that the new route would strengthen the airline’s presence in Mozambique while supporting economic and social ties between the two countries.
According to the airline, the service is expected to improve access to northern Mozambique for international investors, business travellers, tourists and development partners.
The expanded connectivity could also create opportunities for trade, investment, tourism and cross-border cooperation by making the region more accessible to international markets.
Ethiopian Airlines operates flights to more than 65 destinations across Africa, using its Addis Ababa hub to connect passengers to destinations across the continent and beyond.
The airline says the Nacala service forms part of its broader strategy to expand its African network, promote regional integration and support economic growth through improved air transport.
The launch adds another destination to Ethiopian Airlines’ extensive network, reinforcing the role of aviation in facilitating business, tourism and people-to-people exchanges across Africa.
