Uganda’s President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Wednesday met and held talks with His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the United Arab Emirates’ Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs.
According to reports, they held high-level discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations.
The meeting, held at State House Entebbe, culminated in the signing of multiple Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) spanning critical sectors including energy, health, digital transformation, and infrastructure development.
President Museveni described the visit as a significant milestone in Uganda-UAE relations, highlighting the shared vision for economic transformation and sustainable development. “We had good discussions focused on deepening our cooperation. The MOUs signed today are a strong foundation for tangible partnerships that will benefit both our peoples,” the President stated.
Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s visit comes amid growing UAE interest in expanding its footprint across East Africa, and Uganda’s positioning as a stable and promising investment destination.
Key focus areas include:
Energy: Joint ventures in clean and renewable energy projects aimed at increasing Uganda’s power generation capacity.
Health: Collaborations to improve healthcare delivery systems, capacity building, and medical technology exchange.
Digital Transformation: Support for Uganda’s digital infrastructure and innovation ecosystem to promote e-governance and ICT development.
Infrastructure Development: Partnerships in transport, construction, and public utilities to modernize Uganda’s physical infrastructure.
