Uganda’s military chief Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba on Saturday held talks with Rwandan President Paul Kagame, as the two neighbouring countries move to strengthen bilateral and military cooperation.
President Kagame received Gen Kainerugaba in Kigali on Saturday following the Ugandan army chief’s arrival in Rwanda for an official working visit.
According to the Rwandan Presidency, the discussions focused on the strong bilateral cooperation between Rwanda and Uganda, as well as regional peace, security and stability.
Patriotic League of Uganda spokesperson Andrew Mwenda was part of the delegation accompanying the CDF.
Gen Kainerugaba had earlier been received by Rwanda’s Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Mubarakh Muganga, Commander of the Republican Guard Maj Gen Willy Rwagasana, and Uganda’s Defence Attaché to Rwanda, Col Ezekeil Matsiko.
The visit also includes engagements with senior leaders of the Rwanda Defence Force, with discussions expected to cover deeper military cooperation and other areas of mutual interest between Kampala and Kigali.
The meeting comes amid continued regional efforts to promote peace and stability in the Great Lakes region, where armed conflicts and political tensions remain major security concerns.
Gen Kainerugaba has played a prominent role in Uganda’s recent diplomatic and security engagements with Rwanda, including earlier visits that contributed to the restoration and strengthening of relations between the two countries.
