KAMPALA, Uganda — Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary Dr. Diana Atwine has assured Members of Parliament representing districts along the Uganda–Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) border of the country’s capacity to respond to public health emergencies.
Atwine made the remarks while chairing a high-level engagement with the legislators during the ongoing 4th Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Summit at Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala.
She emphasised Uganda’s experience in managing epidemics, expressing confidence in the country’s preparedness and response capabilities.
“You cannot match Uganda with any other country in epidemic response. Nobody will teach us. We set the pace. Don’t worry about our capabilities,” Atwine said.
The engagement brought together health sector leaders and legislators from border districts, where cross-border movement presents particular challenges for the detection, prevention and containment of infectious disease outbreaks.
Uganda’s preparedness in these areas depends on coordination between national health authorities, local governments and neighbouring countries to strengthen disease surveillance, information sharing and emergency response.
The summit provides a platform for stakeholders to discuss strategies for strengthening health promotion, disease prevention and the country’s capacity to respond to public health threats.
