President Yoweri Museveni has urged African military officers to champion economic and political integration, warning that the continent’s future depends on unity, prosperity and the ability to defend its interests.

Speaking during an engagement with officers undertaking a course at the Senior Command and Staff College in Kimaka, the President said Africa must move beyond fragmentation and embrace the principles of patriotism and Pan-Africanism.

The course brings together 52 students drawn from different countries across the continent.

During the interaction, Museveni held discussions on strategic security, wealth creation, information and communication technology (ICT), population growth and the dangers of sectarianism, which he described as obstacles to sustainable development and stability.

He stressed that security and economic transformation are closely linked, arguing that nations must create wealth and opportunities for their citizens while building strong institutions capable of protecting national and continental interests.

“Africa’s future lies in economic and political integration, guided by Patriotism and Pan-Africanism,” Museveni said.

The President noted that African countries must strengthen their capacity to defend their interests in all spheres while ensuring that development benefits ordinary citizens.

His remarks come as African leaders continue to push for deeper regional cooperation, expanded intra-African trade and collective responses to emerging security and economic challenges across the continent.

Museveni challenged the officers to become ambassadors of unity and transformation, saying the continent’s progress will depend on leaders who understand both security and socio-economic development.
