Uganda hosted a reception to officially inaugurate Ukraine’s Honorary Consulate in Kampala on Saturday. The reception was held at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel, marking a milestone in the growing bilateral ties between the two countries.
The inauguration ceremony, presided over by Milly Babalanda, Minister in Charge of the Presidency, highlighted the strengthening of Uganda–Ukraine relations based on the principles of sovereign equality, mutual respect, and adherence to international law.
These principles are expected to underpin future cooperation in sectors including industrial development, agricultural equipment manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and broader bilateral initiatives.
“Uganda welcomes Ukraine’s renewed engagement with Africa and looks forward to deepening collaboration within this evolving framework,” Minister Babalanda said, emphasizing the country’s desire for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
The newly appointed Honorary Consul, Mr. Maganlal Thummar Patel, was hailed for his role in representing Ukraine’s interests in Uganda. Minister Babalanda also acknowledged President H.E. Rtd. Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for creating a peaceful and conducive environment that facilitates such diplomatic milestones.
The establishment of a resident consul reflects Uganda’s ‘open door’ policy in her relations with the globe and indicates commitment to expanding diplomatic, economic, and industrial cooperation with Ukraine, signaling a new chapter in the two countries’ relationship.
Saturday’s event was attended by a cross section of dignitaries including ministers and members of the diplomatic corps.
