Uganda's Ambassador to Russia, H.E Moses Kizige (R) chats with a guest

Uganda’s Ambassador to Russia, H.E Moses Kizige, has urged coffee exporters to seize the abundant opportunities in the Russian market, referring to it as a “low-hanging fruit.” The Ambassador made this call during a breakfast meeting organized by the Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA) in Moscow, aimed at sharing insights into market opportunities for Uganda’s coffee in Russia.

Highlighting the potential of the Russian market, Ambassador Kizige encouraged exporters to collaborate closely with Uganda’s Embassy in Moscow. He emphasized the importance of establishing strong connections with Russia’s top coffee buyers, roasters, and cafes to facilitate increased exports.

In the 2020/21 fiscal year, Uganda successfully exported 335,962 bags of coffee to Russia.

He expressed the country’s ambitious goal to further escalate export volumes, aligning with The Coffee Roadmap – a strategic initiative to boost Uganda’s presence in the global coffee market.

The Ambassador underscored the need for exporters to capitalize on the positive momentum generated in the previous fiscal year. He encouraged them to explore the untapped potential of the Russian market, which he described as a low-hanging fruit, ripe for further cultivation.

Uganda’s Embassy in Moscow is poised to play a pivotal role in facilitating this market expansion. Ambassador Kizige assured exporters of the embassy’s commitment to acting as a bridge between Ugandan coffee producers and key players in the Russian coffee industry.

The breakfast meeting served as a platform for networking and collaboration, fostering a stronger relationship between Ugandan exporters and Russian stakeholders. It provided a forum for information exchange and discussions on how to navigate the Russian market effectively.
