Ugandan chef Dorcus Bashema Kirabo, known as Mama D, has captured the world’s attention as she endeavors to clinch the Guinness World Record for the longest solo cooking session.

The current record stands at 119 hours, 57 minutes, and 16 seconds, achieved by Alan Fisher in Matsue, Shimane, Japan, from September 28 to October 3, 2023.

Mama D aims to surpass this feat on home turf. She commenced her ambitious challenge on December 23, 2023, in Kira, Wakiso district, starting precisely at 10:00 am. Her goal? To exceed 121 hours and set a new Cookathon record.

As of 8:00 am on December 26, Mama D had already amassed 61 hours of continuous cooking. Celebrating her progress, she tweeted, “66 hours, 52 minutes and counting,” marking her 77th meal on Boxing Day.

Grateful for the support, Mama D expressed her appreciation to visitors in her kitchen, affirming, “It is the people like you that keep us going. We will not give up till Friday.” Notably, Lilian Arjarova, head of the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB), has shown keen interest in Mama D’s remarkable challenge.
