Ugandan and Rwandan Delegations Convene to Resolve Cross-Border Security Concerns

In a bid to tackle persistent bottlenecks straining relations between Uganda and Rwanda, high-level delegations from both nations engaged in a consultative security meeting. The session aimed to address longstanding issues and foster improved cooperation along the shared border.

Heading the Ugandan delegation was His Excellency the Ambassador of Uganda to Rwanda, Major General (Rtd) Robert Rusoke, accompanied by Deputy Head of Mission, Ambassador Margret Kedesi, and their team. Representing Rwanda was Mr. Yvesi Muneza, the technical advisor to the permanent secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

The meeting, held in a diplomatic spirit, sought to identify and resolve challenges affecting cross-border interactions, trade, and security. Both delegations discussed various concerns that have impacted the bilateral relationship, including trade impediments, border restrictions, and security issues affecting citizens of both nations.

“The objective of this dialogue is to address the bottlenecks that have strained the relationship between our nations,” stated Ambassador Robert Rusoke. “We are committed to finding common ground and fostering a conducive environment for enhanced cooperation.”

Mr. Yvesi Muneza echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the mutual benefit of resolving these longstanding issues.

Discussions during the meeting centered on enhancing communication channels between the two countries, exploring mechanisms to expedite the resolution of cross-border disputes, and bolstering security cooperation to curb illegal activities affecting both nations.
