Uganda and Venezuela have renewed their commitment to deepening diplomatic and economic ties, following high-level talks between Uganda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Gen. Odongo Jeje Abubakhar, and the Venezuelan Ambassador to Uganda, H.E. Fatima Fernandes Juarez.
During the meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kampala, Hon. Odongo warmly welcomed Ambassador Juarez and her delegation, commending the cordial relations that have existed between the two countries. He reaffirmed Uganda’s readiness to strengthen cooperation with Venezuela across political, economic, and cultural spheres.
Ambassador Juarez, in her remarks, proposed the establishment of a Joint Permanent Commission (JPC) between Uganda and Venezuela, a mechanism she said would institutionalize and broaden cooperation frameworks.
The JPC, once operationalized, would serve as a platform for coordinating joint projects, addressing shared challenges, and identifying new opportunities in trade, investment, and cultural exchange.

Uganda and Venezuela share a history of collaboration within the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), the Group of 77 (G77), and other multilateral platforms advocating for the Global South. Both countries have consistently emphasized the principles of sovereignty, mutual respect, and South-South cooperation in international affairs.
Analysts note that the proposed JPC could pave the way for new partnerships in areas such as energy, agriculture, education, and people-to-people exchanges.
Uganda, which continues to diversify its foreign relations, views Venezuela as an important ally in promoting solidarity among developing nations.
In the meeting, both sides expressing optimism that the initiative would deepen bilateral engagements and contribute to stronger ties not only between Kampala and Caracas but also within the broader framework of cooperation among nations of the Global South.
