President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has conveyed Uganda’s heartfelt condolences to the Government and People of Venezuela following the devastating earthquakes that struck parts of the South American nation, causing widespread loss of life, injuries and destruction of infrastructure.
In a condolence message addressed to the Government and People of Venezuela, President Museveni said Uganda stands in solidarity with the Venezuelan people during what he described as a difficult and painful moment. He extended sympathies to families who lost loved ones and wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the disaster.
“At this trying moment, the People of Uganda commiserate and stand in solidarity with their Venezuelan brothers and sisters, and wish quick recuperation to those who sustained physical injuries,” the President said.
Two catastrophic, back-to-back earthquakes hit northern and central Venezuela on the evening of Wednesday, June 24, 2026, killing at least 235 people, injuring over 4,300 others, and leaving thousands missing.
President Museveni also expressed hope that ongoing search and rescue operations would save more lives and prevent the death toll from rising further.
“The grief and loss that have been occasioned by these earthquakes is unimaginable,” he noted, assuring the people of Venezuela that Uganda’s thoughts and prayers are with them as they mourn and begin the process of recovery.
The Ugandan leader concluded his message by praying for eternal rest for those who perished in the disaster, saying: “May the Almighty God grant eternal rest to the departed souls.”
The message highlights the cordial relations between Uganda and Venezuela, with Kampala joining the international community in expressing solidarity and support for the Latin American nation as it responds to one of its deadliest natural disasters in recent years.
