The official visit of VP Jessica Alupo to Russia began with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Moscow
Uganda’s Vice President H.E. Jessica Alupo on Monday held a high-level meeting with Mikhail Bogdanov, the Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for the Middle East and Africa and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, as part of her ongoing official visit to Russia.
The bilateral meeting, which took place at the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters in Moscow, focused on strengthening the longstanding ties between Uganda and Russia. Both parties discussed strategies for deepening political, economic, and diplomatic cooperation.
A key highlight of the talks was the preparation for the next session of the Intergovernmental Russian-Ugandan Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation. This platform is expected to unlock new opportunities for collaboration in areas such as energy, education, agriculture, security, and technology transfer.
Ugandan Vice President H.E. Jessica Alupo met with the Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Mikhail Bogdanov.
Vice President Alupo reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to building a robust and multifaceted partnership with Russia based on mutual respect, non-alignment, and sovereign cooperation. She emphasized the importance of promoting trade and investment linkages that benefit the peoples of both countries.
The two sides also exchanged views on key international issues and reiterated their shared commitment to enhancing coordination at the United Nations and other multilateral forums. Alupo and Bogdanov underscored the need for global equity, fair representation, and non-interference in the internal affairs of states — principles that both Kampala and Moscow continue to champion.
Vice President Alupo is leading a delegation of senior Ugandan officials on a week-long working visit to the Russian Federation aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation in line with Uganda’s strategic priorities and South-South diplomacy agenda.
The visit comes at a time when Uganda and Russia are intensifying efforts to diversify their bilateral ties beyond defense to include economic development, health cooperation, education, and infrastructure development.
