Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs met with a delegation from Nigeria’s National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS).
Monday’s meeting led by Rear Admiral A.A. Adesope (rtd), Acting Head of the delegation and Staff Director, the discussed the importance of NIPSS in fostering reflection, research, and dialogue on critical issues affecting Nigeria, Africa, and beyond.
Rear Admiral Adesope highlighted NIPSS’s flagship program, which engages top-level leaders across public, private, and voluntary sectors including military, police, ministries, and civil services. He emphasized Uganda’s relevance as a study model due to shared pre-colonial histories and burgeoning youth populations. “Uganda’s success in managing youth unemployment and sustaining job creation serves as a learning model in Africa,” he remarked, expressing interest in leveraging ICT for job creation, inspired by Uganda’s experiences.
Representing the Permanent Secretary, Ambassador Phillip Odida, Acting Director of Regional & International Peace and Security, commended the delegation’s visit. He stressed the significance of knowledge-sharing and collaboration in addressing common challenges, advocating for regional cooperation to foster growth and development across borders. “Prosperity for one country should be seen as prosperity for all in the region,” he emphasized.
The meeting concluded positively, with the Nigerian delegation expressing gratitude for the warm reception and hospitality extended by Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. They reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to deepening relations with Uganda and fostering mutual progress.
