Uganda Gets Tech Upgrade to Better Serve Diaspora

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr Vincent Bagiire Waiswa, on Thursday received Sanusi Tejan Savage, Chief of Mission of the International Organization for Migration (IOM Uganda), for discussions aimed at strengthening diaspora engagement and service delivery.

During the meeting, IOM handed over a consignment of ICT equipment to the Ministry to support efforts to enhance engagement with Ugandans living abroad and improve consular services.

According to the Ministry, the equipment will be used to upgrade its real-time Diaspora Platform, enabling better communication with Ugandans in the diaspora and improving the efficiency of consular services.

The discussions focused on expanding cooperation between the Ministry and IOM in areas of diaspora engagement, migration management and socio-economic development.

The Permanent Secretary expressed appreciation to IOM Uganda and International Organization for Migration (UN Migration) for their continued support to Ugandans living abroad, particularly through repatriation assistance and collaboration on consular protection initiatives.

The ICT support is expected to strengthen the Ministry’s capacity to serve Ugandan communities overseas while deepening their contribution to national development through improved engagement platforms and services.
