Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni welcomed a delegation of scientists from Botswana, led by Mr. Andrew Madeswi, CEO of the Botswana Vaccine Institute. This meeting follows President Museveni’s earlier discussions with Botswana’s President Masisi in January, where both leaders expressed their commitment to jointly address the challenge of foot and mouth disease.

President Museveni expressed his satisfaction with the progress made by the scientists in developing a vaccine for the disease, emphasizing Uganda’s strong support for the partnership. The initiative aims to find a lasting solution to the foot and mouth disease, a concern for both nations.

The collaboration extends beyond health, with President Museveni highlighting the broader potential for economic transformation through joint ventures in agriculture, minerals, and energy. By combining their interests, the two countries aspire to unlock numerous opportunities for trade and mutual development.

The Ugandan President commended President Masisi for Botswana’s renewed focus on cooperation within Africa, particularly in augmenting mineral trading relationships with other parts of the world. He expressed anticipation for a comprehensive Joint Framework of Cooperation that spans various economic sectors, fostering closer ties and driving shared prosperity.

This partnership signals a new chapter in the relationship between Uganda and Botswana, showcasing their commitment to addressing common challenges and leveraging mutual interests for the benefit of their nations and the broader African continent.
