The ruling National Resistance Movement has officially invited interested party members to express interest in contesting for the positions of Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the 12th Parliament.

Speaking on the process, Chairperson of the NRM Electoral Commission, Dr Tanga Odoi outlined the guidelines and procedures that aspirants must follow.

Dr Odoi said eligible party members seeking the positions are required to formally submit their expressions of interest to the party in line with the set timelines and regulations issued by the commission.

The move comes as political activity intensifies ahead of the constitution of the 12th Parliament, with competition expected for the influential parliamentary leadership positions.

However, on the same day, the party’s top organ, the Central Executive Committee (CEC) reportedly endorsed the candidature of Jacob Oboth-Oboth and Thomas Tayebwa for Speaker and Deputy respectively.
