South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has been booked off from public engagements after falling ill following his return from the BRICS Summit in India.
The Presidency said Wednesday that Ramaphosa returned to South Africa on Monday and has been advised by his medical team to rest and recover.
“Due to ill health, President Ramaphosa is currently booked off from public engagements,” the Presidency said.
During his recovery, Ramaphosa has asked relevant Ministers to represent him at scheduled public engagements where possible.
The Presidency did not disclose the nature of Ramaphosa’s illness or specify how long he is expected to remain away from public engagements.
Ramaphosa had returned to South Africa after attending the BRICS Summit in India, where he participated in meetings and engagements focused on cooperation among member states and the bloc’s international agenda.
The Presidency said further arrangements would be made for scheduled engagements in the President’s absence.
