Kenya’s opposition AZIMIO leader, Raila Odinga, has declared his readiness to contend for the chairmanship of the African Union.

Speaking passionately about his commitment to the African continent, Raila outlined the reasons he believes he is the most suitable candidate for the prestigious position.

“I am ready and offer myself to be of service to this African continent when called upon,” declared Raila Odinga during the press conference, emphasizing his dedication to contributing to the development and unity of Africa.

Raila further explained that his decision was not taken lightly, and he had engaged in extensive consultations with friends and allies. Notably, he mentioned that General Olusegun Obasanjo, a respected African statesman, had expressed support for his potential candidacy.

“The general Olusegun Obasanjo has said he is one of my closest friends on the continent and has intimated that should there be an interest, I will be keen to serve the continent of Africa,” Raila shared, highlighting the positive reception of his candidacy among influential figures.

Odinga’s decision to step forward for such a pivotal position underscores his commitment to contributing to the broader African agenda and fostering unity and cooperation among the diverse nations on the continent.

It also means the man who has tried to become Kenya’s president in the last decade or so could be looking at alternatives besides the presidency.
