Anticipation surges as Uganda gears up to host the nineteenth summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and step into the esteemed chairmanship for the years 2024 to 2027.
In preparation for this momentous responsibility, a significant dialogue organised by the Uganda Council on Foreign Relations (UCFR) is scheduled at Fairway Hotel, set to delve into Uganda’s pivotal role within the global context.
The event, titled the UCFR Dialogue, is slated to feature the esteemed keynote speaker Prof. Patrick L.O. Lumumba, a renowned public speaker recognized worldwide for his impactful oratory. Prof. Lumumba, the founder of the PLO Lumumba Foundation, boasts a rich legacy as a driving force behind initiatives such as The Association of the Citizens Against Corruption (ACAC) and the Movement for Dialogue and Non-Violence (MODAN). Twice acknowledged as one of the 100 most influential Africans, Lumumba’s insights promise to provide invaluable perspectives on Uganda’s forthcoming chairmanship.
Joining Prof. Lumumba are two distinguished discussants: Dr. Feta Simon, an expert in International Politics and a Think Tank Fellow specializing in geopolitical analysis and negotiation, and Jacqueline Nakaiza, a revered Political Scientist focusing on international security and conflict transformation, honored as the 2021 Next Generation Women in International Security.
Scheduled for November 20th, 2023, from 4 PM to 6 PM, at Fairway Hotel, this dialogue holds immense significance. As Uganda prepares to host the NAM summit in January 2024, gathering 120 United Nations member states, the dialogue aims to foster reflections on reshaping the NAM to address contemporary challenges faced by developing and industrializing nations amidst rapid shifts in the multilateral system.
The dialogue will offer a platform for Prof. Lumumba and the esteemed panelists to delve into critical themes surrounding the NAM, Uganda’s historical contributions to fortifying multilateralism, and the strategic opportunities and challenges presented by Uganda’s impending chairmanship.
By engaging in discussions about Uganda’s role within the NAM and its aspirations for the future, this dialogue seeks to pave the way for a dynamic, responsive, and impactful leadership during Uganda’s tenure at the helm of this influential global forum.
