President Salva Kiir of South Sudan and his Congolese counterpart, President Felix Tshisekedi, engaged in discussions concerning the imperative of peace and stability in the Great Lakes region, with a particular focus on Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
During their meeting, the two leaders emphasized the urgency of adhering to the Nairobi and Luanda peace processes, recognizing them as critical frameworks for restoring peace and stability in the region. These processes have been instrumental in addressing longstanding conflicts and fostering dialogue among various stakeholders in the Great Lakes region.
Kiir was in DRC as chair of the East African Community. He has recently been to Rwanda where he engaged President Paul Kagame on the situation in DRC.
Presidents Kiir and Tshisekedi underscored the importance of collective efforts to implement the agreements reached through these peace processes, emphasizing that sustained commitment and cooperation are essential for achieving lasting peace in Eastern DRC and beyond.
