Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni (R) interacts with the delegation from Azerbaijan
President Yoweri Museveni welcomed a high-level delegation from Azerbaijan led by H.E Yalchin Rafiyev, the Special Envoy and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, in a pivotal meeting at State House, Entebbe.
The discussions primarily focused on the forthcoming Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit set to be hosted by Uganda in January 2024.
The visit of the Azerbaijani delegation held significant importance as they provided President Museveni with comprehensive briefings regarding the preparations and arrangements underway for the upcoming NAM summit. The summit, a gathering of nations committed to promoting global peace, security, and cooperation, is poised to convene in Uganda, marking a critical moment for international diplomacy and collaboration.
Also in attendance was Uganda’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Adonia Ayebare and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During the discussions, both parties exchanged views on the strategic agenda and objectives set for the NAM summit, emphasizing the importance of unity, solidarity, and cooperation among member states. President Museveni expressed his gratitude for the delegation’s insights and contributions toward ensuring the success of the summit.
Addressing the media after the meeting, President Museveni conveyed his optimism and eagerness for a fruitful and impactful gathering of NAM member countries in Uganda. He affirmed Uganda’s commitment to facilitating constructive dialogues and fostering partnerships that aim to address global challenges and advance the principles of the Non-Aligned Movement.
The delegation from Azerbaijan conveyed their appreciation for the warm reception and hospitality extended by Uganda and reiterated their commitment to actively participate and support the initiatives outlined for the summit.
As preparations intensify for the NAM summit, the meeting between President Museveni and the Azerbaijani delegation signifies a pivotal step in the collaborative efforts of participating nations, further solidifying Uganda’s role as a host dedicated to steering meaningful discussions and fostering diplomatic relations among NAM member states.
