PHOTOS: Rwandans, Friends of Rwanda, and Diplomats Celebrate Rwanda’s 30th Liberation Day In Kampala

The residence of the Rwandan ambassador to Uganda in Kampala, was a hive of activity today, as Rwandans living in Uganda, friends of Rwanda and members of the diplomatic corps gathered to celebrate the 30th Liberation Day of Rwanda. The event, hosted by Ambassador Joseph Rutabana, commemorated Rwanda’s significant milestone with a day filled with remembrance and hope.

The chief guest at the ceremony was Uganda’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Henry Okello Oryem. In his address, Oryem emphasized the strong ties between Uganda and Rwanda, highlighting the shared history and mutual aspirations for peace and development in the region.

Among the notable diplomats in attendance were Ethiopia’s Ambassador to Uganda, H.E. Etsegenet Yimenu Bezabih, and the Apostolic Nuncio of Uganda, Most Reverend Luigi Bianco.

July 4, known as Kwibohora, marks Rwanda Liberation Day. On this day in 1994, the Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF) secured the capital, Kigali, effectively ending the 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi. This day is not only a symbol of victory over adversity but also a celebration of Rwanda’s ongoing journey toward unity and reconstruction.

Ambassador Rutabana, emphasized the significance of the country’s journey since liberation. He highlighted Rwanda’s substantial socioeconomic progress, attributing it to the dedication of its citizens and visionary leadership under President Paul Kagame. Rutabana noted, “Our achievements stem from hard work and dedication, supported by the strong and visionary leadership steered by H.E. President Paul Kagame.” He also acknowledged the invaluable support of partners and friends in Rwanda’s development path.

Ambassador Rutabana, in his welcoming remarks, paid tribute to the resilience and bravery of the Rwandan people. He acknowledged the support of the international community and neighboring countries like Uganda in Rwanda’s path to recovery and growth.
