Gold Ikyiriza has officially declared her intentions to contest for the position of National Female Youth Member of Parliament ahead of the 2026 general elections. She made the announcement on Wednesday morning during a press briefing held at Fairway Hotel in Kampala.
In her address to the media and supporters, Ikyiriza outlined a bold vision centered on youth empowerment, pledging to be a strong voice for young people in Parliament. She emphasized the urgent need for a dedicated Ministry of Youth to streamline the handling of youth-related issues, policies, and programs.
“I believe the time has come for us to have a standalone Youth Ministry that is fully committed to addressing the challenges affecting young people in Uganda,” Ikyiriza said. “Our voices deserve to be heard at the highest levels of government.”
The aspiring legislator and former UNSA VP, also vowed to be a fierce advocate for the girl child, promising to push for increased access to education, protection from gender-based violence, and expanded opportunities for young women across the country.
“I am running to represent all young people, but I carry a special commitment to ensuring that no girl is left behind. We must build a society where girls are safe, educated, and empowered to lead,” she added.
Ikyiriza, who has previously represented Uganda at international youth forums including the Global Gateway Youth Event in Brussels, brings with her a background in youth advocacy, leadership, and grassroots mobilization.
Her declaration adds steam into what is expected to be a highly competitive race for the National Female Youth MP slot, a position that plays a crucial role in shaping youth policy and ensuring representation of young women in Uganda’s legislative processes.
