Uganda is hosting the 19th NAM Midterm Ministerial Meeting in Kampala, aimed at reviewing the outcomes of last year’s summit and reinforcing cooperation among Member States to advance the shared aspirations of the Global South.

The Political Sub-Committee of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) has convened to deliberate on key peace and security challenges affecting Member States. Uganda, as Chair of NAM, underscored the importance of dialogue, respect for sovereignty, and adherence to international law as essential pillars for global stability.

Simultaneously, the Economic Sub-Committee is engaging in discussions as part of the consideration of the draft Kampala Final Outcome Document.

The deliberations focus on critical economic issues facing NAM Member States, including poverty eradication as a central objective of the UN 2030 Agenda, strengthening multilateralism, and reforming global governance structures—such as the UN financial architecture and Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs)—to better reflect current global realities and the needs of the Global South.

The discussions also highlight the importance of regional and sub-regional cooperation in promoting industrial development, trade, investment, technology transfer, and job creation.
