Museveni, UK MP Discuss Deepening Uganda-UK Health Cooperation

July 30, 2026

KAMPALA, Uganda, July 30, 2026 — President Yoweri Museveni has held talks with Hon. Beccy Cooper, a member of the UK Parliament and Chair of the UK All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Global Health, focusing on strengthening cooperation between Uganda and the United Kingdom in the health sector.

In a statement shared after the meeting, President Museveni said the discussions centered on expanding collaboration in medical training, skills transfer and improving health service delivery in Uganda.

"I welcomed Hon. Beccy Cooper MP, Chair of the UK All-Party Parliamentary Group on Global Health. We discussed strengthening Uganda-UK collaboration in healthcare, particularly in medical training, skills transfer, and improving health service delivery," the President said.

Museveni also used the meeting to highlight Uganda's successful response to the recent Ebola outbreak, describing it as evidence of the country's robust public health systems and the commitment of frontline health workers.

"I also briefed her on Uganda's successful defeat of the recent Ebola outbreak, which demonstrated the dedication of our health workers and the effectiveness of our response systems," he added.

The engagement comes shortly after Uganda was officially declared Ebola-free following months of intensive surveillance, treatment and contact tracing led by the Ministry of Health, with support from local communities and international partners.

The meeting underscores the long-standing health partnership between Uganda and the United Kingdom, which spans disease prevention, health workforce development, research, maternal and child health, and capacity building. Discussions on medical training and skills transfer are expected to further deepen cooperation aimed at strengthening Uganda's healthcare system and improving patient outcomes.

Hon. Beccy Cooper's visit also reflects continued parliamentary engagement between the two countries on global health priorities, including epidemic preparedness, resilient health systems and equitable access to healthcare.
