President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has welcomed H.E. Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, President of the Togolese Republic, to Uganda on a working visit focused on strengthening bilateral ties and addressing regional security concerns.
The high-level meeting between the two leaders took place in Kampala, where they engaged in closed-door discussions covering a wide range of issues of mutual interest. According to a statement released by the president on X, the two heads of state explored avenues to deepen cooperation in areas such as trade, energy, agriculture, and security.
“Our discussions centered on matters of mutual interest between Uganda and Togo, particularly in advancing our bilateral relations and ensuring regional peace and stability,” President Museveni noted.
President Gnassingbé’s visit comes shortly after his appointment by the African Union as Mediator for the AU-led engagement between the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the Republic of Rwanda. His new role is aimed at addressing the protracted insecurity in Eastern DRC and fostering dialogue between the two neighboring countries.
