President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni will on Wednesday, June 10, address the nation on the Ebola situation in Uganda, as the government intensifies efforts to contain the outbreak.

The announcement comes a day after the President held talks with Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization, at State House Entebbe.

During the meeting, Museveni and Dr. Tedros discussed the Ebola outbreak in the region and measures needed to strengthen prevention and response efforts. The President emphasized the importance of community awareness, early detection of cases, and cross-border collaboration to prevent the spread of the disease.

Museveni noted that Uganda has extensive experience in mobilizing communities to confront public health emergencies, citing the country’s successful fight against HIV/AIDS and previous Ebola outbreaks. He expressed confidence that through science, leadership and cooperation with partners such as the WHO, Uganda would continue to protect its population and strengthen regional health security.

The President’s upcoming address is expected to provide Ugandans with an update on the current Ebola situation, ongoing response measures, and guidance on how citizens can support efforts to contain the outbreak.

The Ministry of Health, working closely with the WHO and other development partners, has been conducting surveillance, contact tracing, public awareness campaigns and other interventions aimed at stopping transmission.

Uganda’s response has received praise from international health experts, with Dr. Tedros recently commending the government’s commitment and experience in managing Ebola outbreaks.
