Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni on Sunday chaired a high-level Ad-Hoc Summit on the deteriorating security situation in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the wider Great Lakes region at State House Entebbe.

In a statement issued from the summit on Sunday, Museveni said he was encouraged by the depth of discussions and the strong political will demonstrated by participating countries to jointly pursue lasting peace and regional stability.

“I am encouraged by the discussions and the strong commitment of participating countries to collaborate for lasting peace and stability in the Great Lakes region,” Museveni said.

The summit brings together regional leaders and senior representatives to assess the persistent insecurity in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, where armed group activity, cross-border threats, and humanitarian challenges continue to undermine stability.

Discussions are understood to be focusing on coordinated security responses, intelligence sharing, diplomatic engagement, and reinforcing existing regional peace mechanisms aimed at addressing the root causes of conflict in the Great Lakes region.

Uganda has remained a key actor in regional peace initiatives, consistently advocating for African-led solutions, dialogue, and collective responsibility in resolving conflicts affecting the Great Lakes.

The outcomes of the Entebbe summit are expected to inform next steps in regional cooperation and security coordination in the coming months.
