Museveni: Busoga Paid the Price for Uganda’s Liberation, Now Development Follows

President Yoweri Museveni has reaffirmed the National Resistance Movement’s historic bond with Busoga, saying the sub-region remains central to the liberation struggle and the country’s development agenda.

Addressing residents during his stopover with Maama Janet Museveni in Namutumba, the President said Busoga paid a heavy price during the NRA war, with heroic cadres such as Nkooko and Ntale executed in Jinja for supporting the liberation cause.

“I was representing our comrades who died in that struggle. Busoga cadres stood with us for long,” he said. “That is why the first brick we contributed to building Uganda is peace. NRM is synonymous with peace.”

Museveni highlighted infrastructure development as the second “brick” that has transformed Uganda under NRM leadership. He noted that travel between the eastern districts has improved significantly, citing the Nakalama–Busembatya–Tirinyi–Mbale road as a flagship upgrade.

“Today you don’t have to pass through Tororo to reach Mbale. You only go to Tororo if you are heading to Kenya,” he said.

The President announced that more key road projects—Nabumali–Namutumba, Busembatya–Namakoko, and Kaliro–Namutumba–Mazuba—are scheduled for implementation in the next financial year. He directed his Principal Private Secretary to coordinate with local leaders to follow up on pledges made to the area.

Museveni concluded by saying he will continue his mobilisation tour in Buyende and Kaliro, carrying the NRM message of peace, stability, and development.
